I was studying a package of granola. It seemed like a healthy product – the words “natural” and “organic” flashed on the front like neon signs.
On the back I found the nutritional details. For a 1/4 cup serving, there were 6 grams of added sugar. But how much is that?
Here’s a simple math trick: divide the grams by 4. The answer is the equivalent of grams in teaspoons.
My sister hates math, but I think she might like this! For the granola,
6 divided by 4 = 1.5
So for the 1/4 cup serving there’s a teaspoon and a half of added sugar. However, personally, I don’t think 1/4 cup is very much. I would probably eat at least twice that. So:
12 grams divided by 4 equals 3 teaspoons of added sugar.
I’m not sure this would be such a great option! Better to put blueberries on your yogurt. Oh – yogurt would be a really fun math exercise.
